Supporting World Book Night 2012

18 Apr

World Book Night is about sharing a love for reading and sees 1,000,000 books given out for free on 23 April (Shakespeare’s birthday). Half of these are donated directly to hospitals etc., while the other half go to the people who’ve requested to be a “Giver” in order to distribute the books in their own communities. (Read the full details on how it works on the World Book Night’s website.)

One way you can get hold of a free book is to visit Skyeworks on Monday afternoon where from 2pm various titles will be available (copies are limited, and it’s first-come first-served!). One book, Bill Bryson’s Notes from a Small Island, was chosen by artist Marion Boddy-Evans; others are a selection chosen by The Reading Room. And while you’re here don’t forget to ask us about the Sorley book prize!

You’re encouraged to pass on the book once you’ve read it and each World Book Night book has a unique identity number, which you can register on the WBN website in order to track where it goes.
